PIPES FOR WATER SUPPLY < ENLARGING THE TOWN HALL [from OUR OWN correspondent] TE AWAMUTU, Tuesday The Te Awamutu Borough Council last night accepted the tender of Hume Steel, Limited, for the supply of about 6600 feet of 12in. pipes and 500 ft. of 4in. pipes in connection with the municipal water supply improvement scheme. The price Wis £2746. Eight other tenders up to £4092. The work of trenching and tunnelling near the intake reservoir on Pirongia Mountain is proceeding satisfactorily, and more than one-third of the largest tunnel, over 500 ft., has been .completed. Delivery of the pipes : s. expected to commence in about a fortnight, and the whole undertaking, involving an expenditure of £IO,OOO loan money, should be completed by the end of October. The council also accepted a tender for enlarging and improving the Town Hall, Messrs. Mclnnes and Ross being successful at £656. Acceptance of' the tender involves the resignation from the council of Mr. T. Mclnnes, a member of the successful firm. The alterations are to bo completed within two months.
