RICCARTON GOSSIP GOOD JUMPING BY ARCADE ENGAGEMENTS FOR WAIMATE

[RY TELEGRAPH —OWN' CORRESPONDENT] CHRISTCHURCH. Tuesday The majority of the horses racing at Waimate and Washdvke this week were seen in action at Riccarton to-day, but the work was mostly of the useful order and the little galloping executed did not attract much interest. Hounslow was given his first task since returning from Etlerslie early in June, and lie jumped five hurdles in company with Silver Foil. He gave a careful display, while his mate did not show much improvement on his previous efforts. Hounslow looks well and may yet bo in good trim for his Grand National engagement. Fleeting Glance gave her usual satisfactory display over four hurdles. Her stablemates, Starshooter and Night Parade, were jumped on Monday. Verden was seen to advantage over two rounds of hurdles, jumping the last four especially well. Arcade (G: Murfitt) negotiated eight of tho schooling steeplechase fences in dashing style. He should win a race shortly, if he does as well with the colours up as in his track essays. Tliurina was allotted a strong working gallop over a mile and a-qunrter, running the last mile in 1.51. He. is standing up to his work well and it is intended to school him over the country on Thursday. Beau Geste. now trained by A. S. Ellis, has so far survived all tho work given him and to-day galloped half a mile in company with Importance in fair time. He will be put to a more serious test at the two South Canterbury meetings this week. Biding engagements for AVnimate on Thursday include:—G. Humphries. Niggerhead. First V : ew, Colofsian. Free Air and Horowhenua arrived from the north this morning. Valpeen, who arrived from Wellington early last week, has been quartered in the North Canterbury district since and has been given light work on the roads and on the Rangiora .tracks. He has thus had a chance to build up again after his two hard races at Trentham, and is expected to put in an appearance at Riccarton next week. Mr. H. A. Knight, owner of Limerick, is again seriously ill. TRANSFER TO AWAPUNI REREATU AND REREPAI Mr C A Boles has decided to have his horses Rereatu and Rerepai trained at Awapnni by R. E. Hatch and they were despatched to their new quarters by yesterday afternoon's express. Rereatu has an engagement in the Mcßae Handicap at the i Manawatu Racing Clubs Winter jJerting -on Saturday and a repetition ofthe form he revealed in the Paornta Handicap at Pukekohe. when he finished third atter having none tho best of luck in running, should make him dangerous. Rerepai has not started for some months, but he has been working usefully and is in first-class order to go ahead with his preparation for spring racing.
