RELIEF FOR THE NEEDY
WELFARE LEAGUE'S WORK ACTIVITIES IN HAMILTON [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON. Tuesday "The league's activities have been greater during the last year than in any period of its history," said Mr. H. Valder, chairman of the "Waikato Social Welfare League, at the annual meeting last night. Meat purchases had totalled £Bll, and sales realised £524. In many cases meat was given away free or was sold at a heavy discount. The sum of £173 had been spent oil garden seeds for the unemployed. The welfare officer, Mr. 11. F. Sanson*!, said that over 500 families had received meat from the league, and 1429 pairs of boots had been repaired. Over 300 pairs of used boots had been given away, and 100 families had received grocery orders. . Mr. Sansom added that 333 families had been given Christinas parcels, while garden seeds had been given to 440' families. As tho result of the last Clothes drive, 210 families had been given parcels. The following officers were reelected: —Chairman, Mr. H. Valder; welfare officer, Mr. Ri F. Sansom,; executive, Mcsdames H. C. Ross and H. J. Greensladc, the Rev. Father M. J. Bleakley, tho president of the Ministers' Association, Messrs. J. R. Fow, F. C. House, A. E. Manning, "NV. H. Paul, A. C. Burgess, F. T. Mills; secretary and treasurer, Mr. R. J. H. Seal; auditor, Mr. W. H. Allen.
