THE MILK PROBLEM
Sir, —I cannot understand nil the fuss over the milk question and for the repeal of the Act. A milk council is exactly what is needed, and if the council follows the method adopted by tbe Wellington City Council it will function satisfactorily to all parties concerned. Much expense will be saved by eliminating overlapping in collecting and distribution whereby milk is delivered to central depots and distributed' under the ward or block system. No relief can be obtained from .the producer who now sells at less than winter cost of production, apart from the long hours involved to produce the income, and the daily increasing drudgery associated with dairying. The price paid to producers, 9d per gallon, is only up to 7d per gallon of actual supply (the balance at 3d per gallon) an average of between 6d and per gallon. In comparison, Wellington producers receive Is l£d per gallon, an average of 9d at the farm, and the milk sold to consumers at 6d per quart, so the Auckland public are really being well treated. Observer.
