TE TEKO-GALATEA ROAD
REPAIRING FLOOD DAMAGE GRANT OFFERED BY MINISTER [BY TELEGRAPH —SPECIAL REPORTER] WELLINGTON, Tuesday The Whakatano County Council recently requested that a grant of £4OO should be made by the Public Works Department for repair of the To Teko-Waiohou-Galatea lload, which suffered severely from flood damage in Juno. Representations in support of the application were made by tho Hon. C. E. Macmillan, member "for the district, who has now received advice from tho Minister of Public Works, Hon. J. Ritcheucr, that the work which appeared to be required was reinstatement of tho road by clearing slips and re- - pairing washouts, £350; repairs to tho Mangamako Stream Bridge and river protection, £500; and repairs to the Waikokopu Stream Bridge, £650, a total of £ISOO. Iho Minister said the second and third items appeared to be capital charges. Additional spans were required because of r an alteration to tho stream bed. Ho was prepared to contribute tho £ : ,_£Hso required for this work condion the council undertaking tho removal of tho slips. llßir
