In spite of these handicaps some last and open play was witnessed. In the principal match Newton proved too good for City, the winners showing much better team work. An even cur-tain-raiser between Ponsonby and l>e von port res id ted in a win for the loinij/r by one point. On No. 2 ground JJichmond. the leading team, took the points from -Marist after the latter had made a great bid to win. -Results were as follows: Newton, 17; City, 5. l'onsonbv, 6; Devonport, 5. I'ichmond, 13; Marist, 10.
