INTER-VARSITY CONTESTS
LOVELOCK WINS MILE (Received July 22. 5.5 p.m.) LONDON. July 21 Tho Oxford-Cambridge University athletic team beat Princeton-Cornell University team by seven wins to three. The mile resulted in a win for J. E. Lovelock. New Zealand, in Ini 15 2-ss. The quarter-mile resulted:—Kane (Cornell). 1; Ralhbone (Cambridge), 2; Horsfal! (the Australian at Cambridge), 3. Time, 48 4-ss. Horsfall was fourth in tho long jump with 21ft. 7Ji n. In the mile Lovelock, lying handy, challenged Binthron in the last lap. Then a terrific tussle ensued and every yard was fiercely contested. The New Zealander entered tho straight slightly ahead and won by two yards. The time was somewhat disappoint in;; in view of the runners' previous records.
