the senior championship GRAFTON'S NARROW VICTORY MANUKAU DEFEATS PONSONBY The third series of matches in the second round of the Auckland Kugby Union's senior grade competition was played on Saturday afternoon in dull weather and on grounds heavy and slippery after rain. There was a good attendance at Eden Park, where two very interesting first division games were played. In the curtain-raiser Grafton just prevailed in the later stages over Otahuhu. scoring one try to nil The main contest was between Manukau and Ponsonhv. The latter put up a stout resistance until well on in the second spell, when tries by Manukau placed the position beyond doubt. ' Playing at the Show Grounds, University recorded an unexpectedly easy victory over Technical Old Boys. In the senior 15 division the three teams relegated from the A division proved too strong for the teams which were originally in the foimer grade. Grammar scored an easy win over North Shore at Devon port, College - Hi ties defeated Eden on No. 3 ground at Eden Park, while Marist always held the upper hand in its match with Grammar B on No. 2 ground. Following were the results of the / matches: — A DIVISION Grafton, 3; Otahuhu, 0. Manukau', 12; Ponsonby, 0. University, 19; Technical, 4. B DIVISION Grammar, 22; North Shore, 0. College Rifles, 15; Eden, 6. Marist, 23; Grammar B. 3.
