WAR MEMORIAL MUSEUM

ATTENDANCES MAINTAINED Attendances at the Auckland War Memorial Museum are being well maintained, there having been a weekly average of 2012 visits during the past four weeks, according to a report submitted by the director, Mr. Gilbert Archoy, at a meeting of the council of tlio Auckland Institute and Museum on Wednesday. For the year to date the total attendances were in excess of 87,000. Mr. Archey said educational work was taking up a considerable amount of the time of the stall'. In the past month 21 lectures had been given by members. Inquiries continued unabated and numbered nearly 500 for the month. Accessions during tbe last lour weeks numbered 45, making a total of 25'J for the year to date. The resignation of Mr. Oliver Nicholson as a trustee was received. In an endeavour to obtain additional members, some 200 personal letters were recently sent to professional men in the city, but only two of the recipients have so far signified their intention of accepting nomination as members, according to a. statement made by the prcsideut, Sir Cecil Leys.
