"MEN IN WHITE"

FILM FOR THE REGENT , With all the action laid against the background of a modern hospital, "Men in White" is one of the most entertaining films to bo presented in Auckland for a considerable time. It will head the programmo to be screened at the Begent Theatre to-day. The story, although seen in several previous films, is placed high abovo the commonplace by the sound acting of the whole cast. Clark Gable, who gave such memorable performances in " Night Flight " and " Hell's Divers," gives ono of the best portrayals of his career in the principal role. M.vrna Lov proves an excellent foil to this popular player and takes the leading feminine part with an ease and naturalness which have always characterised her performances. The entire cast of " Men in White " is comprised of players of exceptional talent. Jean Hersliolt and Elizabeth Allan are both seen in parts admirably suited to their distinctive acting and they invest their roles with a sincerity which makes for perfect characterisations.

The main setting is an elaborately equipped modern hospital in which efficiency and austero beauty have been skilfully combined. A considerable amount of the pleasure of the picture is derived from following tho camera along the hospital's enamel and steel wards and corridors, and visiting its spotless operating theatres and ollices. Several previous Alms have had tho sotting of a hospital, but never before has the architecture and mechanism of such an institution been explored with such vivid effect. Tho central figures in the drama are a young and promising surgeon (Clark Gable) and his fiancee (Myrna Loy), wfio resents his absorption in his work. Clark Gable proposes to study in Vienna and then return to America and take up a large practice. On the other hand, Myrna Loy wishes him to sacrifice the possibilities of achieving fame and mould his profession so that they could see more of each other. In this dilemma of deciding between his work and the claims of his fiancee Gable turns to a young nurse in the hospital who is in love with him. The nurse dies, and the pieturo leaves him bidding farewell to Myrna Loy prior to going abroad on the condition that they may take up their old lifo at a future date.
