OVERSEAS LEAGUE

LECTURE ON GALLIPOLI At the monthly social of the Overseas League, held on Monday evening, some reminiscences of the Gallipoli campaign, illustrated by lantern slides, were recounted by Colonel T. H. Dawson. By means of his personal recollections and a series of excellent views the speaker took his audience with him on the long voyage which convoyed the Main Body from New Zealand, by way of Australia and Colombo, to Egypt, the great adventure of the journey being the sinking of the German raider Emdenwby H.M.A.S. Sydney. Plans and maps of the Gallipoli Peninsula and the Dardanelles illustrated the description of the historic landing, Colonel Dawson paying a special tribute to the heroic exploits of the 29th Division at Helles. Scenes illustrating the steep and broken nature of tho country. were shown, the series of views concluding with photographs of the beautifullykept war graves areas, and the memorial erected to the New Zealanders on Chunuk Bahr. A vote of thanks was accorded to the speaker on the motion of Mr. J. M. Melville, who presided over a good attendance. Before supper a short musical programme was rendered, Miss Christie singing " Hame" and " Big Lady Moon," and Mrs. Lysaght contributing 'cello solos.
