MOUNT ROSKILL AFFAIRS
VALUATIONS AND RATING It was reported at a meeting of the Mount Roskill Road Board last night that the Internal Affairs Department had been requested to give an interpretation of section 5 of tho Valuation of Land Amendment Act, 1933, regarding which varying opinions had been expressed by solicitors. It was decided to adhere to the board's resolution that rates leviable on its own account for the year 1934-35 be levied on 75 per cent of the values appearing in the valuation roll and otherwise in accordance with the provisions of section the Valuation of Land Amendment Act, 1933. The chairman, Mr. C. M. McCullough, said rating demands would be sent out in accordance with what was considered the correct interpretation of the Act after receipt of the Internal Affairs Department's opinion. Tho city engineer, Mr. J. Tyler, advised that instructions had been given for the surface of Richardson Road to be brought up to the standard of the board's portion of the road. It was reported that building permits to tho value of £566 had been issued during the past fortnight. Details of a combined municipal building and cinema theatre, submitted by a firm of architects, and a proposal for the occupation of such a building, were referred to the Finance Committee for a full report.
