OVERSEAS LEAGUE
The great improvements made in public health in Singapore were described in the course of a talk by Mr. E. Bishop, at the monthly luncheon of the Overseas League yesterday. Mr. E. G. Duncan presided. To-day a million people lived in the city, from which malaria had been more or less eliminated. The swamps in the suburban areas had been either flooded or drained until they were capable of being cultivated, and water channels had been concreted over. It had thus become possible to move large sections of t,be population into less crowded and more healthy surroundings.
