NEW ZEALAND PLANTS
GIFT FOR TORQUAY RECENT VISITOR'S SELECTION [from otfr own correspondent] LONDON, June 8 Mr. C. Greville Page, of former manager of the Torquay branch of the Midland Bank, has returned from a trip to New Zealand and ha» brought with him two crates of New Zealand plants and seeds. There are some 60 varieties of plants, some of which he obtained at considerable cost. All these are now in the hands of the park superintendent, who intends bedr ding out most of them in Abbey Gardens. Although Mr. Page obtained a certificate of the cleanness of the plants before leaving New Zealand, he was not allowed to land his crates without the special permission of the Minister of Agriculture. Since then the plants have been inspected by an official of the Ministry, accompanied by another expert from the staff of Seale-Hayne Agricultural College'. These precautions were taken because a rather bad pest was introduced into the country not long ago in some plants imported into another South Devon resort from Australia.
