TAURANGA COUNTY
RATES FOR THE RIDINGS BRIDGES TO. BE BUILT [from our own correspondent] TAURANGA, Saturday The Tauranga County Council has agreed that the general rate for the current year be fixed as follows: —Katikati riding, 2Jd in the pound; Te Puna riding, 2Jd; "Waimahu riding, 2id; Te Puke riding, 2|d (half-rate in Mount Maunganui town district); Maketu riding, l|d. The rates are on the unimproved value.
Tenders were received for the construction in reinforced concrete of the Te Mania, Aongatete, Kuikokopu, and Otamara.kau bridges, and McLeod's Flat culrert. The lowest tender for the five structures in one contract was accepted, subject to the approval of the Main Highways Board. The county clerk, in his monthly report, stated that a good demand existed for properties in the county. Sixteen transfers were recorded, and further sales of subdivisions were to hand. An absentee-owned area of 98 acres at Athenree was offered at auction during tho month and disposed of, thus bringing into occupation, since action on these lines had been taken, a total area of 985 acres.
