THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE ' TIMBER ISSUES IMPROVE Following the active tone in the investment market on the previous day, fairly substantial business was completed at the single call on the Auckland Stock Exchange on Saturday. Although there were slight recessions in offers for some Government loans, the general tone was strong. A parcel of 1955 4 per cent stock was secured unchanged at £lO7 ss. In banks offers for most issues were withdrawn. New Zealands were again sought,at 4.s 6d, a lot being accepted 3d cheaper at 47s 9d, holders making a reduction of Id in quoting at that price. For Commercials, buyers dropped by 2d to 15s od, but sellers lifted tlieir limits by Id to 15s lOd. Strong support was maintained for insurance shares. South British changed hands at 80s 6d, a rise of 6d. A feature of the general sections was tho improvement in timber shares, Kauris in particular. These were sought 5d higher at ISs and were quoted Is higher at 19s, a sale takiug place at ISs, a rise of 6(1. Uncertainty in the meat export trade was reilected in a f-alo of Gear Meats at 25s 6(1, a drop of 3s. Taupiri Coals also lost ground, being transferred 6d lower at 13s 6(1. Dealing at current rates was completed in Auckland Gas, Devonport Fcrrys and Colonial Sugars.
