BIRKENHEAD ANGLICANS
JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS FIRST SERVICE COMMEMORATED Large congregations attended the services held at All Saints' Church yesterday in celebration of the jubilee of the first Anglican service at Birkenhead, which took place under the verandah of the store at Chelsea in 1884. In the evening, when the Mayor of Birkenhead, Mr. 6. Mills, and members of the Borough Council were present, the attendance was particularly large. The preacher was the Ven. Archdeacon Simkin, who dedicated a memorial to the late Mr. John Hall and Mrs. Hall of an oak Litany desk, and to the late Mr. Walter Messenger of an oak lectern. The Rev. P. Houghton, vicar of St. Mark's, llemuera, was the preacher in the morning. The young people's service in the afternoon was conducted by the Rev. P. S. Smallfield, vicar of Mount Roskill, and the dedication of the Boy Scouts' colours performed by the vicar, the Rev. P. C. Davis.
