THEFT OF JEWELLERY
AN INTENSIVE INQUIRY RACING OWNER'S MISFORTUNE A widespread inquiry was made yesterday by detectives into the theft from the residence of Mrs. W. R. Sweetapple, 3 George Street, Newmarket, on Wednesday evening, but there had been no arrest at a late hour. An inventory of the jewellery stolen was completed, and it is now believed that the value of the articles taken, in* eluding three gold cups representing successes achieved by Mrs. Sweetappl o at racing, is in excess of £9OO. Tlie investigators made a thorough examination of the premises, and footprints noticed in tho garden lead toward the theory that perhaps there was only one intruder in the house. Apart from Mrs. Sweetapple's misfortune in having her homo ransacked and having had two motor-cars stolen last year, she has lately lost two racehorses, it being found necessary to destroy Silver Binger. and Alpinus ob account of injuries. Some of tho articles ol' jewellery removed from her home were partly covered by insurance, but her loss is a very heavy one.
