PROPOSED SUBSIDY
! SUM OF £5,000,000 BRITISH BEEF FARMERS EMPIRE TRADE RESTRICTIONS CONSULTATIONS TO BEGIN By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright (Received June 18. G.S p.m.) LONDON, June 18 The Daily Herald says the Ministry of Agriculture is preparing to ask Parliament to vote £5,000,000 as a subsidy to beef-producing farmers. The Minister, Mr. W. E. Elliot, is abandoning all idea of restricting imports, and -will pay the difference between the depreciated prices which farmers are obtaining and the economic scale. The Daily Telegraph says that Whitehall is regretfully again discussing with the Dominions their refusal at Ottawa to establish a central Empire consultative body to meet the situation arising from the Dominions' refusal to restrict beef exports. It is now suggested that an impartial survey of the Empire's agricultural and industrial potentialities, including those of Britain, might yield valuable conclusions. The paper learns that consultations on the subject of export regulations will begin forthwith between Mr. S. M. Bruce, Australian High Commissioner. Sir James Parr, High Commissioner for New Zealand, and Mr. W. Forgan Smith, Premier of Queensland.
