OBITUARY

MRS. ROBERT LfIiDLAW The death occurred yesterday of a greatly-respected Auckland resident, Mrs. Robert Laidlaw, ivife of Sir. .Robert Laidlaw, of 300 Jervois Road, Heme Bay, and mother of Mr. Robert A. La id! aw. .Mrs. Laidlaw, who was in her 70th year, had been ill for about two months. ■ She was born at Dairy, near Glasgow, where her early married life was spent. In 1886 she and her husband arrived at Dunedin in the old Aorangi. Mr. Laidlaw established a hosiery factory there and later built up a wellknown wholesale and retail hardware business under the name of Laidlaw and Gray, Limited. This he conducted until his retirement and remoTal to Auckland in 290-5. For the greater part of her life Mrs. Laidlaw was active in religious work. Not long after her arrival in Auckland Ehe became leader of the girls' Bible class at the Howe Street Gospel Hall and held that office for 21 years. She and her husband celebrated their golden wedding last November. Mrs. Laidlaw is survived by her husband, one son, Mr. R. A. Laidlaw, and two daughters, Mrs. X). Robertson and Mrs. W. H. Fortune, both of Auckland. Two sons, Mr. John R. Laidlaw and Mr. Arthur F. Laidlaw, lost their lives in the Great "War. The funeral is to take place at Waikumete this afternoon. A service will be conducted in the Howe Street Hall by Dr. W. H. Pettit, and Mr. H. Tolland, principal of the New Zealand Bible Training Institute, will officiate ' at the graveside. .MR. T. G REE XT The death occurred recently of Mr. Thomas Green, of 6 Henley Street, Parnell. at the age of 82. Mr. Green, who had been employed by the Northern Roller Milling Company, Limited, for more than 50 years, was one of the firm's oldest employees, and assisted to build the brick chimney of the company's factory in Fort Street in the early 'eighties. He was head stableman at the time of his death, and his charges won many prizes at shows. He was the official buyer of horses for the firm, which still maintains a stable of 12. Mr. Green's wife died two years ago. He is survived by one daughter. MRS. ANN RUSSELL The death occurred on Sunday, at ihe residence of her daughter, Sirs. D. R. Council. Avondale, of Mrs. Ann Russell, in her 90th year. Mrs. Russell, accompanied by her husband and family of eight, .arrived in Auckland from Fngland on March 18. 3884, by the fullrigged ship Northumberland, the voyage having occupied 93 days. iSince coming to New Zealand she bad resided in the Auckland district. Her husband, the late Mr. Robert Russell, of Parnell. died -35 years ago. Sirs. Russell retained the possession of her faculties to a degree unusual for her age, being able to thread needles, sew and read small print without speciacles up to the time of her death. She wa.s keenly interested in the activities of the Meihgdist Church. She is survived by seven children. Sir. John Russell, of Auckland, Sir. Thomas Russell, of Mission Bay, Sir. Sylvester Russell, of Pukekohe. Sirs. G. L. Shanks. Kaukapakapa. Sirs. E. E. Copsey and Sirs. D. R. Conn ell, of Avondale, and Sire. 3. G. Wvmer, of Siauku. There are 39 grandchildren and 27 grea t-gra n d children.
