BOXING RING

BOUT ON MONDAY WEEK HOLLAND TO MEET McKAY The next contest to bo staged by the Auckland Boxing Association will take place in the Town Hall on Monday week and will feature two light-weights who have not previously been seen in action in this city, although both have good reputations elsewhere. Stoker Micky Holland, of H.M.S. Diomede, and Johnny McKay, of Gisborno, will meet in a professional bout of ten threeminuto rounds, and a special supporting programme has been arranged, including an amateur bout of six rounds between W. McKay, Gisborno and Now Zealand fly-weight champion, and Frank Bruno, former Auckland and New Zealand fly-weight champion. Other bouts will take place between naval boxers and local amateurs. Micky Holland won tho light-weight championship of tho Atalantic Fleet in .1933, and ho also holds the bolt for the navy and marines. Tho name of Seaman Watson, who recently fought for the world's title, is engraved on tho belt, recording ten wins in 11)28 and KJ.'IO. The Gisborno boy, who weighs 9st. (31b., has never been knocked off his feet in any of his contests and in his five professional fights has won three, drawn one and lost one. His only defeat was in his first fight in the professional ranks when he lost to Ted Oxley—at the time New Zealand light-weight champion—in 12 rounds, following up this with a draw with Franklin, who now holds tho Dominion light-weight title.

Tho fly-weight contest between Bruno and Billy McKay should provide some groat fighting. The littlo Aticklander is always a welcome and popular figure in tho ring, and ho will have a host of supporters to cheer him on in this battle against the New Zealand champion. -McKay lias been boxing for some timo with a great amount of success, culminating in his winning the New Zealand title last year. The Community Sunshine Association and tho Windmill Boxing Club held a combined tournament at tho lnttcr'y gymnasium last week, ten bouts being decided. Several officials of the Auckland Boxing Association, including the now secretary, Mr. 1:1. Watts, were in attendance and were greatly impressed with the ability displayed by the boys, Ihe two youngest of whom were awarded freo passes to the Town Hall on Monday week. Mr. Williamson, director of tho Community Sunshine Association, and Mr. Davey, instructor, were complimented upon the excellence of the tourney,
