OBITUARY
MR. J. A. McCALLUM [by telegraph OWN correspondent] HAWERA, Tuesday The death occurred somewhat suddenly early this morning of Mr. J. A. MeCallum, of Rainio Road, Inaha. Deceased was a well-known farmer here for 23 years. He came to New Zealand from Australia, and was for some time on the staff of the Tataraimaka cheese factory. Eight years later he settled on land at Okaiawa, subsequently removing to lnaha. He was an old member of the Farmers' Union, and a director of tho Rivenlale Dairy Company, and he possessed one of the best Jersey herds in tho district. He leaves a wife and four sons, Messrs. J. M. MeCallum (Okaiawa), Eric MeCallum, Donald MeCallum, and Douglas MeCallum (Inaha), and one daughter, Mrs. Bruce Barclay (Matapu).
MRS. ALICE FENTON [jiY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] TE PUKE, Tuesday The death occurred yesterday of an old pioneer of the To Puke district, Mrs. Alice Fenton, aged 77 years. Born in County Down, Ireland, she came to New Zealand with her brother, Mr. J. Gilmore, when she was 18 years of age. She was married to the lato Mr. James Henry Fenton, a well-known contractor, and resided for 19 years at Tauranga, afterwards coming to the To Puke district, where sho had resided for the past i3S years. She was a woman of strong personality and could toll many interesting experiences of tho early days. She leaves a family of five daughters and two sons, Mesdames E. Bobcrtson .(Auckland), S. J. Conn (Rangiriri), A. G. Diprose, A. J. Collins, J. G. Saunders (To Puke), Messrs. J?. J. Fenton (Pnpamoa), and A. H. Fenton (To Puke). One son was killed in tho Great War.
