GOVERNMENT'S ATTITUDE STATEMENT BY MINISTER [BY TELEGRAPH —FRESS ASSOCIATION*] WELLINGTON", Tuesday Statements made by the chairman of the Otago Hospital Board, Mr. W. E. S. Knight, in connection with the proposal to erect a new obstetric hospital at Dunedin were replied-to b}' the Minister of Health, the Hon. J. A. Young, to-day. The Minister said that had the Hospital Board's counter-offer, spoken of by the chairman, been accepted by the Government, it would have resolved itself into the board receiving a £20,000 free grant from tho Government, £3OOO from the Unemployment Board, £6OOO from tho Dunedin Savings Bank, £ISOO (estimated) from tho salo of the Batchelor Maternity Hospital, and £ISOO (estimated) from tho sale of St. Helens Hospital, a total of £32,000 to cover a proposed expenditure of £30,000, thus leaving tho Otago Hospital Board a nrofit 0 f ] eas t £2OOO, and involving that body in no expense whatever.
