PARALYSED 65 YEARS
MAORI CLINGS TO LIFE REMARKABLE TAUPO CASE [nV TELECKAI'II —OWN CORRESPONDENT] TAUPO, Tuesday The death has occurred at Oruanui, near Taupo, of a Maori named Koho Kobe, aged 79 years. In 1860, when Kobe Kohe was 14 years old, be ato some raw karaka berries, and shortly afterwards became paralysed. As time went on his body became terribly contorted, and be was in such a state that ho was unable to teed himself, and it was impossible to dress him at all. He used to be wrapped in a rug and placed in tlie corner of a room, and this had been bis whole existence for the past 65 years. His brain seemed to be the only part of him alive, and it was tho wonder of anyone who saw him tiiat such :i crippled body could generate a spark of life. For many years Kobe Kohe had been living with a resident of Oruanui.
