HINDUS AND SAPPHIRE
STONE'S EVIL INFLUENCE MISHAPS TO THE OWNERS CALCUTTA. May 20 A chain of mishaps among well-to-do Hindu residents of Nagbpur is ascribed to the evil influence of a beautiful sapphire. The sapphire was given to a Naghpur merchant who, within three days, lost business orders worth several thousand rupees and was involved in a car accident. , He gave the stone to a lawyer, who, within 12 hours, was knocked down by a car. It was then given to another lawyer, whose wife died suddenly. The sapphire was left in the custody of a cook, who was severely burned when the kitchen caught fire. Two hours later it was again given away, and the recipient was thrown from a motorcycle while taking it home. The sapphire is now in the possession of a Parsee woman, and it is believed that the evil influence has been broken now it is not in the hands of a Hindu.
