COMMISSIONER'S NEW POST TRANSFER TO SOUTH AFRICA [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Saturday Commission John Cunningham, territorial commander of the Salvation Army in New Zealand, is to be transferred to South Africa. He will leave on July 14 by the Ruahine for London, to attend a meeting of the High Council, which is to elect the new world commander. From London he will go to South Africa.
Commissioner Cunningham succeeded Commissioner James Hay in 1929, as territorial commander of the Salvation Army in New Zealand. He has been connected with the Army for over 40 years, and has seen service in many lands. Before coming to New Zealand lie was international secretary of the Army in London. Prior to that he was commissioner at Java, and has 'filled the posts of chief secretary for the Army in Holland and South Africa, besides having been assistant-inter-national social secretary for the world. He is a Scotsman, a native of Perth.
