GENERAL RAIN EXPECTED COLDER TEMPERATURES The weather report and forecast fm. The indications are for strong winds to gales, generally westerly 111 and north of Cook Strait elsewhere south-westerly and southerlies soon becoming genera). Seas rough to heavy. SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST HEAVY SHOWERS LIKELY The Government meteorologist issued to the Hf.rald last night the following special weather forecast for the Auckland district:—Strong westerly winds to gales, hacking to south-westerly. The weather is likely to be cold and boisterous, with heavy showers, and, in places, hail. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland.—-Unsettled weather prevailed yesterday, periods of sunshine being interspersed with heavy showers There was a fresh westerly wind. The barometer fell steadily until 10 p.m., when it registered slightly below 20.55 in,, but the fall then checked abruptly, and there was a slight rising tendency at midnight. Christchurch. —Light rain fell in the early morning and during the day there was a light north-west breeze. Toward evening the wind reached gale force, changing to south-west and bringing rain and sleet in violent gusts. The barometer, after having dropped sharply to 29.10 in., rose to 29.35 in. last evening. Dunedin. —Wintry weather was experienced yesterday. Heavy rain fell in the morning, and strong south-west squalls, and cold rain prevailed throughout the afternoon and to-night. The wind blew with gale force at times. The temperature, which reached a maximum of 46deg. at mid-day, fell several degrees in a few hours. The barometer also fell rapidly and registered 29.10 in. at .1 p.m. This was the lowest reading recorded for several months.
