NEW GUINEA FLIGHT

AIR MAIL ARRANGEMENTS LETTERS FROM DOMINION [bv telegraph OWN correspondent] WELLING TON, Thursday The experimental air mail between Australia and New Guinea, to be carried by the Faith in Australia, was referred to by Mr. C. T. P. Ulm to-day. Mr. Ulm said the aeroplane would leave Melbourne at 4 a.m. on June 16, and would fly via Sydney, Brisbane, Rockhampton, Townsville and Cairns to Port Moresby. It would arrive at Lai on June 18 and the return flight would be made four days later. Mr. Ulm said that so far he had received numerous requests from New Zealanders to post letters for carriage by the Faith in Australia on the flight. Ho requested that people should send letters to him at 16 Barrick Street, Sydney. Postage for the air mail was 6d, in addition to the normal Australian postage rate of 2d a half-ounce. The mail would close in Melbourne on Juno 15 and letters for inclusion would have to reach his Sydney office not later than June 7. Money for stamps should be included in the letters. "New Guinea is a tremendously important place in view of the gold discovered there," said Mr. Ulm. "I believe it is a natural route along which" an air service should bo developed, and I am forming a company for that purpose and also to develop an AustraliaNew Zealand air mail service.

"Beside carrying mail, this flight will be of value in enabling us to make a, survey of the route. Supplies of lubricating oil and petrol are now being laid along the route. We have flown over most of the route, but not all of it. There are aerodromes at the places mentioned, but some of them will need improvement for use by a machine of this size, and that work is Tinder way.

"The personnel on the flight will be Mr. G. U. Allen, Mr. R. N. Boulton and myself. If tlio mail load is not too great, we shall be able to carry three or four passengers, but I anticipate a full load of mail, judging by the number of inquiries I have already received from New Zealanders."
