TEMPERANCE WORK
An evening was held this week to bid farewell to the Misses A. M. and C. M. McLay, who leave on Saturday for London, thence to Stockholm, to attend the World's Women's Christian Temperance Union Conference. The conference is to be hold in the Houses of Parliament, Stockholm, and the Crown Princa of Sweden will welcome the delegates. The Misses McLay will later attend the International Temperance Congress in London, the first to be held for 25 years. Miss C. M. McLay has been asked to speak on the "Native Race and Alcohol" at that congress. Greetings were received from the Auckland district executive, the evening branch, and the following "Y" branches:—Auckland, Grey Lynn, Royal Oak, Takapuna, Papatoetoe and Otahuhu. A pianoforte solo was given by Miss Molly Fear, elocutionary items by Mrs. Burnett, solos by Mrs. Taskcr Brown and the Misses Moore and Carpenter. Miss Appleby was the accompanist. Miss Appleby, district "Y" president, presented to Miss C. M. McLay a handbag, a gift from the "Y's" in token of their love and esteem for her. The district president, Mrs. Hugh Kasper, on behalf of the district executive, presented Miss A. M. McLay with a gift of rnonoy.
