Penrose, flying in a Wapiti aeroplane with a heavy-oil engine,' is reported to have ascended 28,o00ft.—nearly five and a-half miles—beating the American heavy-oil record of 23,009 ft. Penrose's sealed barograph has been sent to the Aero Club fur oflicial checking. TWO-TON CARGO LOAD GERMANS CLAIM A RECORD (Received May 13, 5.5 p.m.) BERLIN. May 12 Flight-Commander Mauro and Sergeant Olivari claim to have reached an altitude record of 24,600 ft.—over °'ir and a-half miles—with a two-ton commercial load, thus beating tho drench .record of 22,521 ft.
