NEW SCHOONER YACHT
BUILDING STARTS AT ONCE TASMAN RACE COMPETITOR An addition to Auckland's pleasure fleet next season will be a new schooner yacht which has just been ordered from the Speedcraft Boat Company, of Judge's Bay, for Mr. N. de Barry Noakes, of Auckland. The new boat, which will be rigged as a schooner, will be 40ft. overall, and 32ft. on the waterline. She will have a beam of lift. 4in. and a draught of sft. 4in. She will have four tons of lead on the keel and one ton of inside iron ballast. Built on solid frames, the new craft will be of fairly heavy construction, tho planking being of l£in. heart kauri. Two separate cabins will be provided. Adjoining the galley will be a 50-gallon water-tank. The schooner will carry a liberal spread of canvas, and will also be fitted with a 20 h.p. engine. She will be steered by a wheel. A start on the vessel will be made this week, and. no time will be lost in her construction. Tho boat has been specially designed for cruising, and it is the intention of her owner to enter for the Tasman Sea yacht race toward the end of the year.
