MAORI WAR VETERAN
NAVAL DOCTOR'S DEATH A. naval veteran of the Maori War, Deputy-Inspector-Genera] William Connolly, M.D., R.N., died at . Dublin in March, at the great age of 103. Dr. Connolly joined the Medical Department of the Royal Navy in 1856, and was on active service in the China War of the two following years. He took part in the Taranaki campaign as senior medical officer of the Naval Brigade, but returned to Britain before tho outbreak of the war in the Waikato. In 1803 ho was surgeon on board tho ironclad Prince Consort when she was brought into Kingstown Harbour in a sinking condition with all hands manning the pumps. Ho served in the Zulu War of 1878 and later was appointed Deputy-Inspector-General of Hospitals and Fleets, retiring from tho Navy in 1886.
