NOTED COMPOSER
"THE MERRY WIDOW" BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION VJENN/l, April 30 Franz Lcliar, the composer of "The Merry Widow," celebrated his G4th birthday to-day in his chateau overlooking the Danube. Many famous musicians and singers attended to offer their congratulations. While he still composes, Lehar's hobbies consist of playing billiards, furnishing Hats —of which he has five, containing 14 pianos—and also collecting stamps, cartoons and programmes. The collection of programmes consists of 200,000 from all parts of the world, chiefly announcing Lchar compositions. Australia is. especially well represented owing to a rich sheep farmer making a collection and sending it to Lobar.
