"THE APPLE CART"
A BERNARD SHAW PLAY In keeping with the recent visit to New Zealand of the famous dramatist, Mr. George Bernard Shaw, was the presentation of one of his plays, " The Apple Cart," by the Little Theatre Society on Saturday evening. Cabinet Ministers, imposing in gold-laced uniforms, cocked hats with feathers and high-sounding Roman names, held the stage most of the time, sharing the honours with the King. To the feminists among the audience the fact that there were two women members of llio Cabinet must have been a hopoful portent. Miss Edna Hcrrick, who played the part of the Powcrinistress-General, Lysistrata (formerly a schoolmistress), was an academic-looking figure in her black mortar-board and gown, worn over a bright red frock. Her sprightly associate in the Cabinet, Amanda, tho Postmistress-General, played by Miss Helen Seabrook, was in a black velvet coat with tails and silver buttons and a short black skirt of ciro satin. In spare moments she carried a black velvet cocked bat with white ostrich feathers. The Queen Geinima, played bv Miss Althea Parker, wore a black crepe de chine frock with ivory georgette top and sleeves. The part of Alice, Princess Royal, who made a very brief appearance, was taken by Miss Lorn a. Revburn wearing a frock with brown, parchment and yellow-coloured stripes arranged horizontally and a small hat to match.
