GUIDES' BIRTHDAY PARTY
Despite bad weather the Ake Runga Guides and Brownies held their sixth birthday party in the Jubilee Hall, Kingsland, 011 Saturday. The afternoon was spent with games and items by the Brownies, who were in charge of Brown Owl Scott. Later Brownies and Guides gathered for tea at the beautifully decorated tea tables —the work of the ladies' committee. Regret was felt at the absence of Captain Evans, who is at present in hospital, and Miss Short acted as captain. The two birthday cakes were cut by the Brown Owl and Lieutenant Short, each child receiving a k'owpio with her cake. After tea votes of 4 thanks were paid to the ladies' committee for making the party such a success. Mrs. Roan, president, replied. The committee ladies were:—Mesdames Roan, Ellis, Jones, Johnstone, Thomson, Jenkins, Killip and Lcnn. The remainder of the evening was spent with games, relay races and with items by the Guides. Miss O. Hayward (commissioner for the district), Mrs. Werren and a number of officers, Guides and Brownies from other companies were also present.
