NEW ZEALAND PRODUCE

LANCASHIRE CAMPAIGN Meat and dairy boards • SUCCESSFUL COMPETITIONS [FROM OUR OWN CORRKRI'ONDENT] LONDON, March 29 Both the New Zealand Moat Boai;d fcnd the Dairy Produce Board have reason to congratulate themselves on the results of thoir campaign in Lancashire. The ball was set rolling by the High Commissioner, and during the weeks that followed the interest shown in y e w Zealand produce was an evergrowing one. This was proved by the attendances at a children's gathering arid at tho distribution of prizes. • For tho window-dressing competition for meat traders thero were 102 entries. The$ judging took place on March 16, the judges being appointed by the Manchester Moat Retailers' Association. The competitors were divided into two groups—Liverpool and Bootle, and Birkenhead and "Wallasey—districts containing a population equal to that of >s'ew Zealand. Prizes and cups were awarded to tho winners showing a dozen or more carcases of lamb, and to the winners showing less than that liuthber. Sixteen of tho competitors were chosen and on March 22 a final selection was made. Show ol Produce / In addition to the competitors other retailers also made a show of New Zealand produce on both weeks, so thnt Jfew Zealand lamb was brought very prominently before the public throughout the whole district. It was also most fortunate that tho Grand National race meeting occurred during tho period, when Liverpool was crowded with visitors from all parts of Great Britain. Jn conjunction with the window-dress-ing competition there was the children's competition. The outline of one of the coloured posters was issued to all customers of each shop competing. The children were asked to colour this and return the picture to the New Zealand, shop. Over 1200 forms were returned and many more of the forms were taken into the homes. The pictures were- judged by the principal of the Liverpool School of Art, who expressed himself as quite pleased with tho results, especially with the work of the younger children. In order to obtain additional publicity a meeting was held in the largest picture theatre —tho Forum—-on the Saturday morning. Invitations were issued to the children who had competed, nnd they responded with extraordinary enthusiasm, they and their mothers and friends filling the large theatre. Films of the New Zealand dairy and meat industries were shown, beside other suitable films. During the interval Mr. R. S. Forsyth addressed the children, and he had 46 prize-winners lined up on the stage.

Presentation of Prizes "The Lady Mayoress presented the six cash prizes and tho 40 consolation prizes, consisting of boxes of paints. As each child left the theatre ho was presented with a 4oz. sample of New Zealand butter and suitable literature.

The Dairy Board has again announced a record in its window-dressing competition. In Liverpool 374 produce retailers entered, and in Birkenhead 132, a total of 506. Last Monday afternoon a meeting Was held by the combined boards, competitors being invited to the Adelphi Hotel. The Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Liverpool presented the cups, and 300 retailers attended, making one of the largest meetings of retailers ever held in Liverpool. Mr. Forsyth, Jlr. Davjs and Mr. Dynes Fulton addressed the guests.
