SPEEDWELL CUP CONTEST. The annual contest for the Speedwell Cup for. boats of the Wakatere class was decided in a, good breeze on Saturday after r noon. The nine competitors who have qualified after a. number of trials during the season crossed the line for a good start. Wiritoa was first, closely followed by Waimarie and Wanderer, with the others bunched together. Spinnakers were set on the run to the Sandspit beacon, Wahine rounding the mark first. The boats carried their spinnakers forward to Resolution buoy, Wiritoa forging ahead with Wakatere and Wakanui close astern. The order rounding the buoy was Wiritoa, Wakatere, Wakanui, Wahine, Windjammer, Waimarie, Waiata. Wanderer and Waiola. With the dead beat to windward to the mark off Bayswater Wakatere and Wiritoa fought out a close duel. Wakatere finally establishing a substantial lead by putting in an extra tack to windward out of the tide before crossing the harbour. Wakatere and Wiritoa were unchallenged on the run down to the finish and Wakanui narrowly beat Waimarie for third place. The race was one of the most successful of the season and Wakatere, handled well by J. Hunt, thoroughly deserved its win. The finishing times were:—Wakatere, 5h lni 245; Wiritoa, 5h 3m 395 : Wakannj, 5h 9m 50e; Waimarie, 5h 9m 51s. Wahine. 5h 10m 18s; Waiata, 5h 10m 20s: Wanderer.. 5h 11m 20k; Windjammer. 5h 16m 20s. Waiola retired.

AILSA CRAIG CUP RACE The Akarana Yacht Club' held a. race on Saturday afternoon for motor-boatß for the Ailsa Craig Cup. Four entries were received, but only two boats. Nyria and Octavia Effaced the starter.'Nyng, was first away and was never headed, finishing well ahead of her rival. LUPTON POINTS CUP The Point Chevalier Sailing Club brought its season to a close yesterday when a general handicap was held, starting and finishing off the clubhouse. The race was started in a fresh south-westerly breeze and brought out six competitors. From a good start, Kittiwake was first away and was closely follower! by Janet, Rewa, Ngaro, Martha S. and Aotea. Martha S. was soon in the lead and was first -home. The finishing times were:—Martha S. (scr), 2h J4m 83s; Janet (Sin), 2h 34m 20s; Ngaro (8m), 2h 34m 435; Rewa (21m). 2h •10m 28s; Aotea (17m), 2h 41m Ss; Kittiwake (10m), 2h 46m 17s.

The result on corrected times was:—> Janet, 1; Rewa, 2: Aotea, 3. In addition to the general handicap, ths sail-off betweeu Ngaro and Kittiwake. which had tied for the Lupton Cup, wps also decided and resulted ir. a win for Ngaro.

HERNE BAY SAILING CLUB Two races were held by the Heme Bay Sailing Club on Saturday afternoon for its,, midget class. The first event was for seniors and the second for juniors, both races starting and finishing off Ponsonby Whart In the race for 6eniors Silver Feni was first away and led throughout. ORAKEI MODEL CLUB The Orakei Basin Model Yacht Club held a. series of races for model yachts in the Orakei Basin on Saturday afternoon.
