Sir, —Kindly give me space to offer five suggestions for improving the farmers' price and for the general gooi[. of the whole industry. (1) Cream collecting overlapping. Most of our roads have four and five lorries collecting some carting over 100 miles. The same applies to bobby calves and pigs and the poor old farmer foots the bi11.(2) All cows to be tested and herd-testing officers given power to cull and fire brand all cows not likely to produce 3001b. fat, thus reducing herds 25 per cent and making room for sheep or young beef for chilling. (3) All butter to become the property of the Govern, ment, who will sell, ship and dispose of the output, doing away with com. petitive selling; saving the industry 10 per cent. (4) All manure works to le controlled by State. As manure is the life blood of the industry it should be a State monopoly saving the farmers no end of money. (5) All farmers to be supplied with free electric water heaters. The cost will be small as there i$ enough water going over the spillway at Arapuni to supply the Auckland province. Leonard Dcrman.
