MAORI CHIEF'S DEATH

DUE TO NATURAL CAUSES [FROM OUIt OWN C'OHRKSI'ONDF.NTI WHANGAREI. Saturday The adjourned inquest concerning the death of "Mr. Hemi Nahi, a Maori chieftain, who was found dead near his wharo at Titoki, near Whangarei, on April 29, was concluded before the coroner, Mr. C. F. Collins, this morning. Dr. S. H. Ward, who hold a postmortem examination, stated that the cause of death, in his opinion, was heart failure, the result of tho fatty condition of the heart. Senior-Sergeant E. Finch deposed to finding the body lying m some ten-tree, about 20 yards from the whare which deceased had been occupying. Ho examined the body for bruises or any marks that might indicate violence,, but found none. Deceased was a full-blooded Maori, aged about 65 years, and was a married man with eight children, fie owned a farm in the district and at the time of his death was engaged cutting scrub at Titoki. A verdict was returned in accordance with the medical evidence.
