Miss Flatt returned to Auckland yesterday from Christchurch.

Mrs. 0. B. Sheppard, Devonport, has returned from a visit to Waiwera.

Mrs. R. J. Foreman and Miss Jean Foreman, Takapuna, are visiting Rotorua.

At the Station Hotel are Mrs. E. E. Hale, Hamilton; Mrs. J. Wilton, Wellington; Miss J. Morey, Hamuton.

Miss Alice Basten has returned from Christchurch after attending as a delegate the conference of the National Council of Women.

Misses Bertha and Jessie Forbes, daughters of the Prime Minister and Mrs. Forbes, left last week on a month s visit to Australia.

Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm R. Henderson left by the Monterey on Friday on their return to Persia. Mr. Henderson has been on six months' furlough, visiting his home in Auckland.

Miss Ellen Melville, president of the Auckland branch of the National Council of Women, returned to Auckland yesterday from Christchurch, where she had attended the Dominion Conference of the council.

The first of the series of old-time dances to be held in. connection with Holy Trinity Church, Devonport, took place last evening in the Parish Hall. The organisers were Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Hunt, who were assisted by Mr. and Mrs. J. Readdy, on behalf of the Parish Hall Trust Board.

Trophies won in the recent world contract bridge championships by Mrs. F. Banks and Miss N. Williams, of Christchurch, who won the New Zealand section for east and. west hands, will be in the form of silver cups. The trophies are expected to arrive from the United States shortly.

Mother Hannah, of Auckland, who has been attending the conference of the National Council of Women in Christchurch, has been the guest of her niece, Mrs. C. L. Hart, She will spend a fortnight at the home of the Community of the Sacred Name, Christchurch, before returning north.

The christening of the infant son of Lieutenant-Colonel Sir Edward and the Hon. Lady Grigg' took place recently at St. Margaret's, Westminster, writes our London correspondent. Canon Carnegie officiated. The child was named Anthony David Ulick Dundas. The godparents were Mr. Geoffrey Dawson, Captain Guy Westmacott and Mrs. L. S. Amery.

There was a large attendance of dancers at the annual ball arranged by the Eastern Combined Rugby Football Club and held in the Waitoa Hall last week. Arrangements were in the hands of a committee comprising Messrs. S. Bigwood. W. McLeod, Misses D. Kindley, K. Luxton. Messrs. H. Moran, E, Former, J.. L. Gallagher and I. Letter. Music was supplied by a Rotorua orchestra, with extras played by Mr. E. Munson.

A meeting of the Ponsonbv branch of the Women's Christian Temperance Union Avas held in St. John's Methodist Hall last week. Miss Read presided, and gave a report of the Dominion Jubilee Convention recently held in Wellington. Mrs. Lee Cowie, a life vice-presi-dent of the Ponsonby branch, at the convention donated a sum of twenty pounds, through the Ponsonby branch, to the New Zealand organising fund of the union.

The Henderson unit of the Western Suburbs Returned Soldiers' Association held a successful social aud dance ill the Henderson Town Hall, a large number of members and friends being present. Old-time dance music was rendered bv Mrs. Livingston and Mr. J. Tate and Mrs. J. Ash played extras. Dance prizes were won by Mr. J. Piatt and Mrs. Booth and by Mr. E. Moir and Mrs. Latham. Mr. H. Booth directed proceedings.

Tho Dunholme Tennis Club held a social and dance at tho residence of Mrs. R. B. Cruickshank, of Westbourne Road, Reinuera, on-Saturday evening. Over fifty of the members of the club were present. The guests of honour were Miss Ruby Wilson and Mr. Ray Osmond and Mr. and Mrs. Wilson. The club captain presented Miss Wilson and Mr. Osmond with a set of carvers, with the good wishes of their follow _ club members. Dancing and competitions were enioved and items were rendered by the Misses Mary and Peggi Cruickshank, Mr. Norman Dixon and Mrs. Harry Dutton.

A card evening was held by the Taupiri Tennis Club on Saturday evening. The ladies' first prize was won by Mrs. G. Horwood and the the gentlemen's by Mr. F. Catley, while tho ladies' consolation prize was awarded to "Mrs. F. Catley and tho gentlemen's to Mr. Locke. Among the ladies present were Mrs. F. Catley, Mrs. G. Horwood, Mrs. A. Wright, Mrs. E.
