MEMBER SUSPENDED
DEFIED MAYOR'S RULING
CITY COUNCIL DIFFERENCE INCIDENT IN CHRISTCHURCH [by telegraph—PHESS association] CHRISTCHURCH, Monday After a heated argument with the Mayor, Mr. D. G. Sullivan, M.P., Mr. A. E. Armstrong was ordered to leave a m6eting of the City Council to-night and was suspended for the remainder of the sitting. The> expulsion and suspension were decreed by a vote of the council. It was the first time within living memory that a member of the council has been, suspended in this way. Mr. Armstrong wished to read certain correspondence and the Mayor ruled this out of order. Mr. Armstrong disobeyed the ruling, shouting defiance. Mr. Armstrong is the only independent Labour representative on the council, Mr. Sulliva,n being the Labour Mayor.
