RETURNED SOLDIERS
THE PAEROA ASSOCIATION

There was an attendance oi; over 70 members at the annual meeting of the Paeroa-Hauraki Returned Soldiers' Association held in Paeroa on Saturday night. Mr./E. Edwards, president, presided. It was stated in the report that the association had assisted in having nine pensions granted or reinstated, and 28 returned men had been assisted to obtain employment. Subsidised work for odd days had been found and paid for to assist some returned men, and assistance by supplying additional food to unemployed returned men at Christmas time had also been given by the association. Many returned men had received assistance when passing through the district. The membership was 101 ■at the end of the financial year, and 20 new members were elected at the meeting. The financial statement showed a credit of £l3, and an additional £2O reserve fund. . Officers were elected as follows: — Patron, Mr. A. M. Samuel, M.P.; president, Mr. E. Edwards; vice-presi-dents, Messrs. A. H. W. Farrell and 0. M. Samuel (Paeroa), *W. Mclnnes (Kerepehi), and E. A. Mahoney (Ngatea); committee, Messrs. S. Anderson / (Torehape), F. Hubbard (Paeroa), .T. Lynch (Kerepehi), J. McCorf|uodale. V. .1. limes, \V. J. Forrest, G. S. Masters, E. W. Harris (Paeroa), P. G. Pearce (Kerepehi); secretary, Mr. J. Walmslev; treasurer, Mr. D. A. Vincent; auditor, Mr. C. N. O'Neilly, The president reported that the Poppy Day sales had exceeded £25, which was £9 in excess of last year's effort. Arrangements to attend the Anzac J>ay parade'were completed, and it was decided to /work in with the civic arrangements.
