DULL AND UNSETTLED HEAVY RAIN IN PARTS The weather report and * forecast for New Zealand issued by the Government meteorologist last evening was as follows: —The pressure is still high to tho north and east, but a rather deep depression covers the Tasman boa, and is moving on to the Dominion. Indications are for moderate to strong; northerly winds, reaching gale force in. places and changing to §outherlies after from 24 to 36 hours. Seas rather rough to rough generally. In the eastern Tas« man Sea strong northerly- winds to gales, backing soon to westerlies in the' northern portion and later to southerlies generally. Seas rough. Temperatures mild, but a cold change is probable during Monday night or Tuesday. 1 SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST FAIRLY GENERAL RAIN The Government meteorologist issued to the Herald last night the following special weather forecast for the Auckland district: —Moderate to strong northerly winds, rising to gale force in v places and backing to westerlies during to-morrow. The weather will be unsettled, cloudy and misty, with fairly general rain and later some heavy falls probable in tho western area. Seas rough.

WEEK-END WEATHER Auckland. —There Was a continuation of wet weather and a moderate northwest wind during the week-end, frequent prolonged showers being experienced on Saturday. Yesterday was fine, but cloudy and threatening conditions in the afternoon were followed by rain late in the evening. The barometer, after ,being practically steady since' Friday, fell ,10in. yesterday afternoon. Barometer, midnight, falling .. 30.10 in, Midnight, Saturday .. .. 30.20 in. Wellington.—The weather on Saturday was dull but mild, with a m- ,te north-west wind. Eain fell late „ the afternoon and during the night. The maximum temperature was 65 degrees. Yesterday was dull and misty with rain at times and a moderate to fresh northwest wind. Christchurch.—Fine but dull weather prevailed during the week-end. The temperature was mild on both days and the barometer was steady at 29.95 in. until late yesterday afternoon, when it began to fall and rain was threatening.

Dunedin. —Ideal autumn "weather prevailed over the week-end. Saturday opened with bright sunshine which lasted throughout the morning, and although the sky became clouded in the afternoon, the weather was line and mild with a light north-east breeze. Conditions yesterday were similar to those of the previous day. The barometer registered a downward turn and in the evening the reading was 29.80 in.
