Sirs. W. Prenton. of Hamilton, who attended the Dominion conference of the National Council of Women in Christcliurch last week, _ will leave tomorrow on her return journey to the North.
Dr. and Mrs. Kitching and Mrs. Pontifex, England, who have been the guests of Sir Henry and Lady Wigram, Christcliurch, left last week for Sydney, where they will visit Sir Philip and Lady Game, at Government House, before returning to England.
Tlio Mount Eden Methodist Hall was taxed to its utmost capacity when over 200 women gathered as the guests of the Mount Eden branch of the Auckland Methodist Women's Missionary Auxiliary. Mrs. Armitage, the president, emphasised the urgent need of greater financial help for the mission work in the Solomon Islands. The following programme of musical and elocutionary items was contributed: — Vocal solos >by .Mesdames Otter and Rattray; _ Maori songs, with rhythmic accompaniment, by Mrs. Harold King; and a recitation by Mrs. V. Brooks. Afternoon tea, was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Armitage, Alison, Caley, Clark, De Luen, Firth, Forster, Gray, S. Griffith, C. Griffith, Stone and Tyler, and Misses Caley, Mason, Mather, Parkinson and Wilkinson. The collection, which was dedicated by the Bev. Frederick Parker, amounted to £l7 5s 4d.
A bridge afternoon, arranged by, the Papatoetoe Girl Guides executive was held in the Renown Hall, Papatoetoe. last week. The guests were received by Mrs. F. E. Carr (president) and Mrs. W. J. Nicholson (vice-president). The prize for the highest score was won by Miss Ailsa Whvto, and the hidden number prize by Miss Rita Burnside. Among those present wereMesdames R. McCombe, J. J.
