TE AROHA MEETING

'AUTUMN JLli'S SURPRISE r , —_ DOUBLE FOR LADY FAME MISHAPS IN TWO EVENTS A win dividend in the region of half a century paid by Autumn Lu in the Waihou Handicap was an exciting feature of the Te Arolia Trotting Club's annual meeting on Saturday. Autumn Lu was tho outsider of a field of seven 011 both machines, and her placo dividend also was substantial.

Smooger won the principal event, the Te Arolia Trotting Handicap, and Jackie Thorpo was successful in the Farewell Handicap. Horses sired by Nelson Fame wpn four races, Mr. Wilfred Johnstone's mare Lady Fame, driven by the Canterbury reinsman, S. A. Edwards, capturing a double, the Waitoa and Hot Springs Handicaps. In both these races falls occurred, but the drivers and horses involved appeared to escape without serious hurt. The worst sufferer was G. T. Mitchell, who was severely shaken when Homo Brow fell over Red Frontier in the Hot Springs Handicap, throwing him high in the air.

The weather was overcast but remained fine except for a slight drizzle at one stage. However, tho attendance was affected by' rain in other districts, and the totalisator turnover showed a corresponding decline.
