RAVAGES OF CANCER
SCOURGE IN AUSTRALIA DEATH-RATE STILL RISING Records which will be presented to the Australasian Cancer Conference, to be held in Canberra, will disclose that the Australian death-rate from cancer is increasing. In the case of certain types of cancer in certain parts of the body the mortality rate has decreased or -has been arrested slightly, but despite the immense amount of work done in recent years the aggregate death-rate continues to rise slowly.
Voluminous reports, embracing 140 different tables, have been prepared, showing the results obtained from the various forms of treatment now applied in Australia. It is unlikely, however, despite the care which has been taken in the analysis and tabulation of records, that any general conclusions can be made from the records for at least five years. Seventy delegates, including six from New Zealand, will attend the conference.
