SLOW CONDITIONS RULE

POSITION OF STOCKS

INCREASE ON LAST YEAR

Slow conditions continue to rule in the London market for New Zealand butter and cheese. Current quotations remain in the vicinity of 70s per cwt. for New Zealand finest butter and 42s 6d and 42s for white and coloured cheese respectively. The Imperial Economic Committee estimates the stocks of ail butters in store at 964,073 boxes, an increase of 21,860 boxes in comparison with stocks at the corresponding date last year. The New Zealand Dairy Board's weekly report shows that the quantity of New Zealand butter in store totals 9863 tons, an increase of 2200 tons, or 88,000 boxes, in comparison with the same date last year. Merchants have received the following cablegrams from their Loudon houses, dated April 20:— Joseph Nathan and Company, Limited, from Trengrouse and Nathan, Limited. —Butter: 69s to 70s. Cheese: White, 42s to 42s 6d; coloured, 41§ 6d to 425. Both very slow. New Zealand Producers' Co-operative Marketing Association, Limited. — Butter: New Zealand, 69s to 70s; Danish, 78s to 80s. Deliveries: New Zealand, 2250 tons (last year 1433 tons); in store, 9863 tons (last year, 7663 tons). Australian: Salted, 69s to 70s (60s); unsalted, 70s (69s to 70s). Deliveries: Australian, 2180 tons (last year, 2050 tons); in store, 6347 tons (last year, 5050 tons). Argentine: Unsalted, 70s (70s). Danish, 5Ss, f.0.b.; S2s spot (61s, 84s). Duteh: Unsalted. 69s to 77s (70s to 775). Estonian: Salted and unsalted, 70s ( —). Latvian: Salted and unsalted, 70s (70s to 71s). FORWARD SALES AUSTRALIAN CURRENT PRICE [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Sunday The New Zealand Dairy Produce Board has been advised by the Australian Dairy Board that it has fixed the minimum price at which Australian butter may' be sold for forward shipment to the United Kingdom durine the coming week at B£d and B£d per lb. These prices are the New Zealand f.o.b. equivalent of the Australian c.i.f.e. minimum prices fixed.

Tho Farmer? 1 Co-operative Auctioneering Company. Limite-d, reports having bejel its usual fortnightly sale at. the Morriusville yards on Friday. There was n small yarding of fat wethers, which were of only medium quality. Competition was not keen. There was a good entry of fat ewes, including a choice lino of 120 heavy prime ewes ofTered on behalf of Mr. L. H. Lamer. These sheep averaged 193. Thero was again a heavy yarding of fat lambs, including many pens of prime quality sheep. Competition was keen and a total clearance was made at recent quotations. A medium yarding of good quality steers and prime cows cumo forward and met with a good sale from local butcheis. There was an extra heavy yarding of fat, and forward Jersey cows. These sold freely at rates fully equal to late sales. In-calf heifers nnd heifer calves were yarded in largo numbers, but the quality generally was not.up to standard and sales were hard to effect. A heavy yarding of pigs was penned, the majority being porkers, which sold under brisk competition, prices in some cases being iu advance of Frankton quotations. The offering of baconers was smaller than usual, but these sold readily at lato rates.
