CARS IN COLLISION
REMARKABLE ESCAPES THREE VEHICLES INVOLVED ACCIDENT NEAR MERCER Remarkablo escapes from injury were experienced by tho occupants of three vehicles involved in collisions on the Great South Road, about threo miles south of Mercer, on Saturday afternoon.
A touring car driven by Mr. G. E. Maxwell, of Aka Aka, and a light delivery van first collided. Mr. Maxwell, with-two companions, was bound for tho military camp at Ngaruawahia. The van was driven by Mr. H. Freestone, of Nelson Street, Auckland, who was accompanied by his wife and two children. It plunged olf the road and down a 12ft. bank, coming to rest on its side in tho tea-tree.
Meanwhile, Mr. Maxwell's car had again been struck by a motor-car driven by Mr. A. Green, of Tho Strand, Takapuna. The touring car capsized in tho centre of the road, with the occupants underneath, while Mr. Green's car had one side torn out and an axle broken.
Tho overturned car was completely wrecked, parts being thrown for a considerable distance, but none of tho occupants suffered serious injuries. Similar good fortune was experienced by tho occupants of tho second car and of tho van, although tho latter vehicle also was badly damaged. GIRL SERIOUSLY HURT FATHER ESCAPES INJURY [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WANGANUI, Sunday As a result of injuries received in a collision between two cars near Marton last night, Miss Betty Oliver, aged 21, of Tutaenui, is in hospital in a critical Condition. She received severo facial injuries. Her father, Mr. G. S. Oliver, who accompanied her in tho car, was not injured. Tho occupants of tho other car, Mr. N. Crabb and Miss K. Crabb, were bruised and cut.
ACCIDENT NEAR WAIWERA PASSENGERS "UNINJURED A five-seater touring car got out of control on a sharp road bend near Waiwera yesterday afternoon and was extensively damaged by striking a bank. It narrowly escaped falling a considerable distance over the side of tho road. Tho occupants of the car were not injured. The driver of the car, Mr. E. Fishlock, of Wellsford, was returning home from Auckland with his brother, Mr. F. W. Fishlock, who had bqen a patient in hospital. The other passengers were Mrs. F. W. Fishlock and Mr. W. Duck.
