They are useless and dangerous, and constitute a menace to all flock-holders dn New Zealand," said Mr J. H. Furniss at a conference of South Auckland delegates of the Farmers' Union to-day. Mr. Furniss was speaking in support of a remit that the registration fee for Alsatian dogs should be increased to £lO.

Several members spoke in defence of Alsatians.

The chairman, Mr. S. N. Ziman, said he had 68 sheep killed by dogs last season, and he thought there should bo more active control over all dogs.

The remit, which was proposed by Mr. A. Cayley, of Huntly, was carried by a large majority.
