RACECOURSE RASCALITY

AUSTRALIAN MYSTERY LOADED PLATE DISCOVERED v ' _ ft (Received March 23, 10.45 p.m.) SYDNEY. March 23 The stewards of the Australian Jockey Club are investigating a mystery associated with the discovery of an aluminium plate. It was picked up on the Moorefield course last Wednesday after the Hawkesbury Club's meeting. The plate was loaded with lead. Experts state that the excess weight on the feet of a racehorse would be more likely to hamper its speed than weight on its back. Also they say a horse with three loaded shoes certainly would be off its balance and unable to do its best. The stewards regard this disoovery as something entirely new in racecourse rascality. The problem is to determine which of the 98 unsuccessful competitors discarded the damning evidence, as place-getters are ruled out of the myste»y.
